The CRL is a 3.45km twin-tunnel underground rail link up to 42 metres below the city centre, transforming the downtown Britomart Transport Centre into a two-way through-station that better connects the Auckland rail network.

WSP expertise has helped shape the CRL project across a number of significant workstreams, ensuring our imprint is firmly cemented in this iconic project.

The City Rail Link project is expected to improve access to the city centre; reduce travel times and reduce traffic congestion; double capacity on the Auckland rail network; and provide for commercial and residential development. The CRL is jointly funded by the Government and Auckland Council.

The project's total cost was estimated at the time, with a funding envelope of $3.4bn. The revised cost envelope for completing the entire Auckland City Rail Link project now totals $4.419bn On completion in 2024, the CRL will improve travel options and journey times and double the number of Aucklanders within 30 minutes travel of the CBD.

WSP is part of the Link Alliance, which will design, construct and deliver the twin rail tunnels of two new underground stations and a new Mt Eden station building.

The Link Alliance includes six New Zealand and international companies with a wealth of experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in New Zealand and overseas. WSP is one of three companies in the Link Alliance focused on the design of CRL while the other three are focused on construction.

WSP is utilising its network of overseas experts, plus valued talent here in New Zealand. In total, we expect to have up to 100 WSP experts working on this project.
